Fishing Reports

Lower Sacramento River Fishing Report 09.03.12

Fall is here in Northern California and the temperatures have been just right.  The trout fishing is still rocking in the Redding area now that the flows have settled down a bit.  It has made made the fishing a bit more predictable on the water.  Lately, we have been using  spoons, drifting plugs, swinging flies, and fishing with roe.  We are catching many large resident steelhead on the river and the ocean run steelhead are coming in right behind the salmon. ...

Lower Sacramento River Fishing Report 08.07.12

The trout fishing near Redding remains good, but the flows are extremely high on the river upstream of Red Bluff making the fishing a bit difficult. We have been throwing spoons, trolling minnow type lures, drifting plugs, and swinging flies.  The fish have been scattered, but they are holding to the deep holes and feeding along the edges of the large riffles & near structure.  The water temperatures have been very cool upstream (52-56 degrees).   The striped ba...

Sacramento River Fishing Report 05.22.12

The trout & resident steelhead fishing on the Sacramento River continues to be great in the Redding area.  The conditions have changed quite a bit due to the rising flows in the river.  There are still some winter run salmon in the river and the smaller salmon smolts have been traveling back to the ocean.  The plug and spoon bite for the trout and resident steelhead fishing has been off the hook.  We continue to land 20+ fish per trip.  We are stil...

Sacramento River Fishing Report 02.17.12

The trout & steelhead fishing all over the Sacramento River has been great.  With the recent rains, lots of fish have moved into the river system and the fish are on the bite.  We have been fishing Glo Bugs, Roe, Hot Shot plugs, and flies.  There are some winter run salmon that have come up the river to spawn in the riffles and runs in the upper section of the river.  The trout and steelhead continue to feed behind the spawning fish.  The flows in...
