Description:
The Mississippi River Delta is the modern area of land (the river delta) built up by alluvium deposited by the Mississippi River as it slows down and enters the Gulf of Mexico.
It is a biologically significant region, comprising 3 million acres (12,000 km²) of coastal wetlands and 40% of the salt marsh in the contiguous United States. It is also a commercially significant region, supporting the economy of New Orleans with significant shipping traffic, providing 16 to 18 % of the US oil supply, and providing 16 % of the US's fisheries harvest, including shrimp, crabs, and crayfish.
The Mississippi River Delta is not to be confused with the Mississippi Delta region, an alluvial plain located some 300 miles northward in western Mississippi along the River.

Spring is here , and so are the fish. With warmer weather and water, the specks will soon begin there spawning which should heat up the fishing. Redfish are still constant catches when the wind isn't howling. The Reds are starting to come out of the duck ponds as the tides in the bays are getting higher. The Mississippi River Delta has been very productive for Redfish fishing this February. It has been good fishing for the big “Bull” Redfish out near the beaches and the points of the shallow bays of canes that surround the Venice, Louisiana area. The smaller ( eating ) Redfish have been plentiful along the canes. We have been catching easy limits of Redfish. Though the water is murky, the Redfish are here in numbers.

Quality trout are showing up down river of Venice on the outside beaches and bays, as well as huge redfish. Over the last couple of weeks, we have caught and released a bunch of bull reds. Several reds over forty pounds were caught. Strange thing is, the rat reds were caught in the same areas as the big reds.
