United StatesBlack Rock Harbor
Details
United StatesBlack Rock Harbor is located in Bridgeport, Connecticut on the Long Island Sound. The Fayerweather lighthouse on Fayerweather Island[1] marks the entrance to the harbor on its east, while St. Mary's by the Sea forms its western beachhead. Seaside Park runs along the northern part of the harbor. The harbor is the mouth of Cedar Creek. It is a deep, protected harbor that developed as a trade port and shipbuilding center in the 18th century. It is now primarily a recreational harbor, having been superseded by the Bridgeport Harbor, which was enlarged by substantial breakwaters in 1907.
St. Mary's by the Sea is a residential walkway along Long Island Sound. There are plenty of things for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy at Saint Marys by the Sea. Bring binoculars to watch the birds and wildlife at this site. There are walkways for power walkers or those looking for a leisurely stroll. The site also holds historic and cultural interest for visitors to explore.
There is also an affluent neighborhood in Bridgeport called Black Rock.
Since 1982, Captains Cove Seaport has grown from a vacant lot and a handful of slips to one of Connecticuts premier tourist attractions and seaport complexes. Located on Historic Black Rock Harbor, we are an active maritime and amusement center.
Theres no admission fee here and were casual.
So.... pack the kids, forget about the lawn, leave your high heels at home and come on down to The Cove! The lighthouse grounds are accessible from a parking area at the end of Barnum Boulevard at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. There is a mildly strenuous walk across a breakwater to the lighthouse. The tower itself is not open to the public.
