Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 12.28.10

December 2010 has brought early winter conditions to East Central Florida with several below freezing nights and very cold water temperatures before the first day of winter.   I am pictured with a frosty morning Redfish taken on a scouting trip right after the cold spell began. After the Reds and Trout got used to the cold water temps down in the high 40’s and low 50’s on the cold mornings, our early winter pattern of schooled up fish in the sand sloughs and pockets began to be the...

Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 06.21.10

Spent the past two days fishing with one of my regular client's Kent S from Ohio. Kent has been a Freshwater customer of mine for over 10 years but made the trip down to FL this week to do some Nearshore fishing with me out of the Cape.   Tarpon was our main target fish for the two days.We found Tarpon both days just off the beach in 20 to 25 ft of water but had trouble getting them to eat and the few we did have eat came unbuttoned very quick. Between Tarpon bites there was plenty of...

Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 05.25.10

The fishing on the East Coast is Red Hot. Big Cobia are still being caught in 40 to 60 ft of water between Daytona Beach and the Cape. There are plenty of Pogie pods just off the beach and this is keeping the Cobia and Tarpon in the area. King Fish are scattered along the East Coast as well and this should only get better. Last year we caught a lot of Kings in the 30 to 40 pound range during the month of June just off the beach. Slow trolling live bait is a sure way to have plenty of hook ups....

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report April 10, 2010  The fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon these past few weeks has been nothing short of fantastic!! What more can I say? A sight-fishing paradise with schools of huge tailing redfish and large schools of the elusive black drum sharing the same flat. All have been happily eating a well placed fly or lure. The last few trips have been spent stalking tailing fish with light tackle spinning gear and fly rods. The big key to success has been a Stea...

Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 11.13.09

In the surf and on the piers, the bluefish are thick and easily being caught using cut mullet, shrimp, and artificial especially silver spoons and are swimming among schools of large Spanish mackerel. An occasional King mackerel has also been landed. Whiting, black drum, red drum, and pompano are in the shallower water. Slot sized redfish are getting caught in the basin of the Ormond-by-the-sea spoil islands. In the area of the bridge by the Tomoka State Park snook and black drum fishing is...

Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 10.13.09

SALT WATER FISHING REPORT October 12, 2009   The past couple days the Tarpon have slowed down a little on the beach. Today my client Gerry from the UK hooked two BIG TARPON in the 150 LB class. One jumped off behind the boat after just a few minutes, and the other Gerry fought for 30 minutes before the fish wore through the 80 # mono leader. To say we were sick in an understatement. So close to a world class Tarpon that was fought to perfection on 30 LB Class Tackle. Gerry also cau...

Atlantic Ocean (FL) Fishing Report 09.08.09

Port Canaveral one hour from Orlando This week was slow but steady. The full moon slowed down the bite, but the bottom fish are starting to get better. We caught king mackerel and barracuda while trolling, and some nice snapper, triggerfish, and black sea bass while bottom fishing. Expect the next week to get excellent as the moon wanes and the mullet run gets into full swing! The mullet run is a blast, with tarpon, jacks, sharks, kings, and more feeding on the annual run. It is some of th...
