The lake is stocked with trout, catfish, bass and sunfish each year as part of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Fishing In Neighborhoods (FINS) program.
"The goal of the program is to create quality fish opportunities near urban areas," said Kathryn Emme, Urban Fisheries Biologist with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife in a news release about the derby. "We intend to target youth and families by providing them a place to experience fishing without the need to travel a long distance."
The lake is located in Alexandria Community Park. There is a fishing pier, walking paths including a 0.75 mile paved trail around the lake, a Frisbee golf course, a children's play area, shelter, public rest rooms, and baseball fields.
