The Back bays are full of tarpon and they have been a blast, as they skyrocket and dance above the waters surface once hooked. Live baits have been the best choice and they must be presented near the bottom as the tide sweeps it slowly. Doa cal and shrimp worked slow get the silver king excited, light leader also helps get strikes. The average size of the tarpon have been 5 to 30 pounds.
Snook season will open on February 1 the snook are abundant providing anglers with great fishing near deep holes and drop offs in the channels and rivers. Live baits and jigs worked slowly on the bottom will get your drag screaming. Once you locate a snook there might be others so don’t move to fast keep working the area thoroughly. Sight fishing is great this time of year and with all the cool fronts we have had the snook are sunning them self on flats, around docks and sea walls. Lead the fish and remember to let the bait hit the water softly.
Freshwater the bass have been active all day on lake Okeechobee. Soft plastics worked over the surface creates exciting top water explosions. Jigging and flipping the thick grass mats great technique for the bigger fish lately. If artificial lures are not your choice shiners will definitely get the rod bent. The bass will soon begin spawning on the lakes and when this happens the fishing will be stellar.
Well that is the fishing report for the past week hope you all enjoyed. Remember you cant catch them from the couch , so get out there and get hooked up. Tight Lines! Capt. Craig Korczynski, PhlatsInshoreFishing.com, 561-644-4371
