Summer is officially upon us here in Cabo! Some are complaining about the warm weather, but those who fish know what happens this time of year. The water is in the mid 80’s, and the cobalt blue color is what dreams are made of for sure.

The monster Dorado moved in and many fish in the 50+ lb range have been iced.  Most hit the lures while trolling for Marlin, but there were also some shark buoys off Punta Gorda that held piles of big Dorado. Throwing live bait to them on light tackle is utterly magical. We also hauled out the fly rod a bit. Honestly we are a bit rusty there, but we are learning “la Mosca” and we have great fly gear on board.

The warm water has brought in a decent amount of Sailfish also. We love to drop back a dead Ballyhoo when the Sails come up in the spread. We throw 20-30 lb for them on the light rods and have had a blast catching and releasing these spectacular fish. The Striped Marlin are also still here and we are seeing 2-3 shots per day on them as well. Check out our website listed below to see some Striped Marlin being hand released under water.

We did our first Blue Marlin of the season last week. Nothing big, but a fat 250 lb Blue. The first of many to come this season for sure. We raised a much larger fish that same day with no bite, but many 400+ lb Blues are showing in Cabo and the East Cape now.  We have the big tackle on board for those of you that really want to stretch your arms. We also have the Tuna tubes mounted and ready to roll for those of you that want to troll live bait. The next 60-90 days are PRIME for a big Blue or Black Marlin, so get down here!

The Tuna are here also. They of course are farther outside, and the season is just beginning. We look for a great Summer/Fall Tuna season as the water warms on the Pacific. We caught a 90 lb Yellowfin on our kite last week. This is the most amazing thing you ever saw, as we use a plastic flying fish lure skipping over the waves while  hanging below a kite. The Tuna come out of the water and nail that flyer. This has to be the most exciting fishing of all.  Captain Bernie has mastered the kite deal, so we make sure to get that program rolling when we see the Tuna.

Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa offers great packages with accommodations and fishing on the Bad Medicine. We also are able to downsize the boat to a great 31’ Bertram in order to lower the package/charter cost. We are located just steps from the marina, and on Cabo’s main beach! Right in the “Heart Of Cabo!. Get down here!  It does not get any better than in Cabo, right here, right now.
