Monster Sturgeon fishing - Legends are made here!
We must give most of the credit to our prehistoric friends the Fraser river White Sturgeon, but putting in years of Sturgeon fishing and feeding behaviour study must offer us some credentials?
Welcome to the world of Big Game freshwater fishing, on one of the worlds best sportfishing rivers: The Fraser. White Sturgeon are world renowned for epic battles that pit man against beast, or rather men because their brute power often requires shift work to bring em in! We can crank down on the drags but when they want to run they are going to, sometimes for hundreds of yards. Or be prepared for a massive fish heaving itself out of the water multiple times trying to spit the hook. It is a typical day for us to see fish over 200 lbs! and encounters with 500 lb fish or bigger happen each season for us. Getting these hogs landed is another story as they will not give up easily and seem to know where the underwater stumps are. But we do land some of them.
This is why their nickname is the Fraser river Marlin. Part dinosaur, part fish, all legend.
Upcoming Sturgeon fishing: our prime times for catching these epic fish is July to early November. Fish will average 5-7 ft with many fish over 300 lbs. The true monsters(over 500 lbs) can be taken anytime from mid July to October but best times are July 20 - August 31.
May and June have pretty good fishing but the river is high from the snow melt so shore landing a fish can be a challenge.
