I want to refresh memories about the freeze of Jan 2010, which left us wondering how things were going to work out in the near future. The two weeks or so after the freeze kept it fresh in our minds, the carcasses were lying on the boat ramp, lining the shore line and floating around in the currents in Fla. Bay. The talk around the boat ramp was how, why and what are we going to do? The boat traffic at Flamingo was down and all the possible anglers were going somewhere else, guides moved and quit looking for other jobs.

Let's move forward to April of 2012, I had launched outside and noticed the day was going to be "iffy" because of the weather. I decide to go back into a pattern I used to fish in a smaller boat! The Redfishing has been spectacular for the last 2 years and documented in numerous fishing shows and articles, basically no predators to feed on the hatchlings giving them a chance to get bigger. It was a great we had something to take the place of all the Snook, Tarpon, and Goliaths that had froze. I noticed there were allot of Snook being caught on the colder days iin East Cape Canal, overslot Snook. This gave me the Idea to start working all the areas out front. I started with live Shrimp and have worked with Lures, Pilchards, Mullet, and Pinfish all have produced Snook for the last 5 months.

I have heard from other guides and anglers about incredible Snook catches most of them in the their old haunts. Prior to 2010 it was always a possibility to catch a Snook or more on a good day and it seems like we might be getting back to those days. I have caught less than 10 Snook under 24 inches with the majority being 30 to 42 inches. I have no problem with that, those are the breeders which we weren't sure made it thru the freeze. I have fished from Flamingo to Marco Island and have had the same results, so we do have a future with Snook

I amfishing Flamingo with Anthony his cousin Sam and his sons Zach and Dillon. The morning started out quickly, Anthony caught the first fish a big Trout. It was on after that, the rods stayed bent
most of the day with Snook, Redfish, Jacks,Ladyfish, Sharks, and a Goliath Grouper. They caught allot of fish and the rods stayed bent all day, Anthony said the kids fell asleep as soon as they sat in the car, that's when I know i did my job. They got a slam today!

I am in Biscayne Bay with my wife Lourdes, son James and friend Jesus. We got into a great Trout, Ladyfish and Cuda bite, then my son had a big Tarpon swirl on his twitch n Rap. I had my wife casting a Halco Lures 'Hamma' . I fished with the Halco owners recently and their lures work, check them out at www.halcolures.com. They are an Australian company. I heard line peeing of the reel and it was my wife's she was fighting a big Trout, I landed, weighed and measured it only because it was a monster. It was 26 inches and 5.8 lbs! On our next stop we were right in the middle of a giant mullet school which were getting destroyed by 13-15 lb Jack's. I got us in position James and Jesus doubled up on these big Jacks, I even got in on it. We landed them and gave chase again but the disappeared. I stayed on the mullet school and my wife hooked a 5 lb Jack. The kids wanted to go swimming so we went to the sandbar.

I have been on fish for a couple months and have not got the chance to catch one, I asked my buddy Wayne if he was up for it. It was forecast to rain all day so there was very little boat traffic and of course "No Rain". After catching some bait we got up shallow and started casting into potholes. On my first cast I hooked a 30 lb Tarpon, after a release I hooked a big fish. It pulled allot of drag fought for a couple minutes then let go. Wayne hooked up in the same spot and his fish was fighting the same way, as his fish came to the surface I saw it was an over slot Redfish. I landed it for Wayne,I measured and weighed it as well. It was 33 inches 10 .8 lbs. The bite was hot, we caught Redfish on every cast we also caught 5 Snook up to 36 inches and Trout. We caught 10 over slot Redfish and 14 others between 22-27 inches. It was a great day it had been at least 5 years since we fished together and I got a Grand Slam!

I am with Drew, Rich and his son Lanny down at Flamingo. We started out a bit slow because of the lack of tide movement, we did catch a small Snook, Redfish,Trout and plenty of Ladyfish. I explained to them we had to wait for the water to start moving and once it did the bite was on! The fish were sitting in a pothole and we had to make really long cast due to clean water. We had an 33 inch Redfish and 3 Snook between 8-10 lbs. All the while we were waiting for the Tarpon we were seeing to get a little closer. We fished the run offs we caught Snook and had Shark hook ups, they caught a bunch of 12 -14 inch Mangrove snappers. On the way in we worked a channel edge and caught 3 Trout, all we over 3 lbs. They got a big slam 10 lb Snook ,10lb Redfish and 3 lb Trout.
