Tampa Bay Fishing Report 03.12.12

Winds have limited trips the last week so I was very anxious to get back into fishing mode. Good news bait was right where it was last week. Several tosses of my Calusa 10' ¼" net did the job right at sunrise. With the time change tonight it was be light Sunday until after 730 am! Starting at low tide .04 we targeted sandy potholes in 2-3' of 70 degree water. We took several chunky 17-18" spotted sea trout on a large grass flat. White bait under a float with 24&...

Tampa Bay Fishing Report 02.20.12

The amazing winter weather continues on Tampa Bay. Once the dense fog burned off we were treated to balmy conditions with highs near 80. My anglers Jack and son Joshua from Chicago got things started quickly as the very first cast resulted in a spunky trout. The white bait wasn't in the water 10 seconds before it was fish on. We stayed busy catching small trout regularly for an hour. Jack and Joshua were tossing white baits on a float in 4-6' of 66 degree water. It was that easy...

Tampa Bay Fishing Report 02.08.12

Super bowl Sunday once again felt like spring and not mid winter. Sunny, light winds and temps near 80 adorned lower Tampa Bay. The weather may have been perfect but gathering bait on the flats went from good to nonexistent overnight! Luckily my Pals at the Reel Animals Fishing show directed me to the Skyway Bridge. My anglers Dave and Son TJ wanted to start the day playing with giant drum. I spent 45 minutes up in the Pathfinders Tower and never saw anything. No problem we will go catc...

Tampa Bay Fishing Report 02.07.12

The Gator trout party keeps getting better on lower Tampa Bay. Today was my best quantity large trout day ever. The day started gather bait on local grass flats which is half the battle as the truly big trout are reluctant to chew shrimp and truly prefer live greenbacks. Today's anglers Bob wife Shannon and father Bob are from Wisconsin and Iowa a big change from Walleye and Musky fishing. Back home they are ice fishing while today the temperatures neared 80. Our first stop in 4...
