Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 03.29.12

Captain Chris Dew and 1st mate Derek were chartered by Clay Parker, Jeff Raver, Max Treese, Roger Burloa, Horace Turbeville and Keith Geohagan of Charlotte, N. C. for a little off shore fishing. What transpired may sound a little fishy, but it's true.  They were fishing the boxcars on the inshore side of the Sharkhole in 69 degree water, when as Keith was reeling in a catch and release sea bass he saw a flounder nail the sea bass.  A marine biologist dropped in a...

Larry Spainhour submitted this information about a 43 pound Wahoo caught by Jeff Annas while he was fishing with Steve Farmer and Jason Gore near the 100/400.  The trio were fishing in 330 feet deep of 72 degree water. Thank you Larry and great fish guys!! - Capt. Rickey Beck...

Shallotte Inlet Fishing Report 03.15.12

The inlet buoys in Shallotte Inlet have been moved to what, as of today, is the best route[basically a straight line out]. The only bad place is the last 2 sets of buoys which is where the bar is located however as of today there is at least 3 feet at low tide. There is one red buoy that is reversed in its location from a green, but just follow the line of buoys out and you should be fine. Everyone should mark their own course out the inlet, the buoys are only intended to be a guide and all...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 02.20.12

It is February with a cold front pushing through Texas, Louisiana, Alambama, and approaching fast. Plentiful sunshine and warm air from the Gulf has gotten our water temperature on the rise again. The redfish are stacked up in some of the local community holes and scattered in small groups on the flats. The speckled trout continue to move in and out of the rivers as water temperatures change rapidly from day to day. Flounder have been caught in deep pockets of water as they are awakened by...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 01.03.12

Michelle Evans Drake, Billy Berg and David Christian of The Law braved the early morning cool weather, yet flat, beautiful seas to go wahoo fishing at the Blackjack Hole.  The 64 lb wahoo they came back with made the trip worth while.  Everyone who has made the ride to the Blackjack on a cool morning knows how good it feels to bundle up in a bean bag chair and catch some z's.  Man that is some goooood sleeping! There is a video, but I can't post it becaus...

Wendell Barnett and Tracy Huggins also headed for the stream yesterday. The word is that the wahoo bite is on fire! Not sure about that? Maybe this picture will help? Six Wahoo with the biggest one being 61 pounds landed on the "Empty Pockets". That means the big ones are showing up out there as well. Check the gear, check the weather, and get out there! See ya on the water! - Capt. Jacob Frick Ocean Isle Fishing Center 65 Causeway Dr. Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 12.08.11

The feeling yesterday was that the fish were starting to get a little lethargic because of the cooling waters.  Don't tell that to the Bonecrusher who fished today using live shrimp.  One of the pictures was taken at the Jetties, he wouldn't come off the other locations.  Check out the 5.9 and 6.0 lb'rs he brought to the OIFC. - Capt. Rickey Beck   Click on above ad to go to the OIFC webstore....

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 12.05.11

You would never know it by this afternoons weather. Jeff and Josh Wallen drove up from Myrtle beach and could not wait to get on the water. I still had a few live shrimp pinned up. The gulps had them chewing. We only fished for a couple of hours and boated 20+ fish a couple of black drum and a small flounder. If you can't figure out what to get the person that has everything, don't forget to give them a day on the water with an OIFC captian fishing. - Capt. Jeff Williamson...

If anyone is wanting to get after the Wahoo's, Tuna and Billfish, call me at 910.620.9919 to book your spot. Weather is just getting better and better every time I check it. Should be light and slight all weekend. Lets go fishing. Cost is...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 10.25.11

Thanks to all participants for their support. 192 total boat entries. The first day the better weather allowed the majority of boats to head offshore where most fish were caught in 100 feet of water. On day 2 the majority of teams were forced to stay close due to stronger winds. Funny enough, all 3 of the top fish were caught on Sunday, 2 of which came from small boats fishing just a mile offshore. First place came from100 feet of water while 2nd and 3rd came from Myrlte Beach rocks.  ...

Shallotte River Fishing Report 10.25.11

Greg and Lee Ann fished a half day trip with me this morning. We headed up the Shallote River looking for redfish, trout, and flounder. Redfish were on the menu first. We caught 2 small 16"-17" reds in our first spot. Our second spot completely scatched, well we did catch a little ocean perch. Our third area we were completely targeting the flounder. First cast produced Lee Ann's first flounder of the day. Greg hooked up with a trout, alright the boat has a slam. Each angler only nee...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 10.17.11

Why in the world had the bait on the beach been so thick you could walk on it, then decide to hide out yesterday. Team "Do Work/OIFC" looked for bait all morning. The crew, aboard OIFC's It Works looked for bait from the Shallotte inlet all the way to Snow's Cut and back. Finally at 12:10 there were a couple of flips near the Ocean Isle pier. Captain Jeff Beck threw his Capt. Brant's custom heavy net blind and floated the net. "Do Work/OIFC" wasn't the only team experiencin...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 10.12.11

To all our friends back inland, folks you are missing one of the most magnificent times of the year at the beach. This past weekend was beautiful and you should have been here. Bluebird sky, low humidity, perfect temperature, pleasant northeast wind...it don't get no better than this. True, it blew pretty strong keeping offshore boats in shore, but our Brunswick County beaches face south, so any wind out of the northern quadrant is blocked by the land and thus it is flat right on the beach....

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 09.30.11

Steve and Jim finally got on the water with me today. We tried to battle the rain on Tuesday, but the electricity was just too much. We rescheduled for today. The current was ripping. wind blowing, and water stirred up from both forces. Again, the conditions pushed us to alternative plans. I really wanted to get out on the beach and nearshore wrecks to find flounder and the big reds. The ocean wasn't going to allow that today. We ended up hitting the docks landing 12 reds, 3 grouper, and monst...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 09.27.11

OK -- here is the deal. I know a lot of you have been watching our site waiting to go fishing until the fish started biting. I don't half blame you, although it does put a lot of pressure on us to find fish all by ourselves- lots of ground to cover. The biggest thing slowing more fishing has been the lack of Kings; it has been tough fishing for them this Summer. But, here is the fishing deal right now that will hopefully get you moving and on the water     We have been fishing1...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 09.20.11

Captain Chris "O.C." Dew of the Carolina Cat took the OIFC's Gaff Cam with him on his charters and brought back all the following pictures. Chris reported on the trip where his crew caught the wahoo, they were headed to the McMarlin Ledge when he spotted birds working and the water alive with action about 3 miles out from the Ledge. He and the crew put out lines baited with ballyhoo. Then all the lines went off! The sad thing was false albacore is what was making them sing.  ...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 05.10.11

I have been feeling the itch something terrible to get my little boat out in the ocean. The weather has been great lately! Light winds and calm seas equals small boat heaven in the ocean. I started out early this morning around 7:00am. I had my limit of spanish in the boat by 8:30am and headed for the 460 looking for some cobia action. I did not see any cobia, but the black sea bass are still thick around the barge. I hated to leave such a beautiful ocean, but I have store duty today. Stop by...

Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report 04.29.11

This weekend's weather forecast is near picture perfect. Whether you want to chase Flounder in the creeks or Wahoo, Tuna and Grouper offshore, the weather does not look like it will be a deterrent. See you at the OIFC!     Grouper Season Opens Sunday, May 1 Grouper have had freedom to roam and eat as they choose since December 31st. I hope that freedom has been enjoyed, because come Sunday, the next meal they eat may be their last. For those of you anxiously await...

What a great week we've been having at the OIFC. The weather has been good, the fish have started biting and many families have chosen to visit Ocean Isle Beach for their Spring Break vacation. The excitement and energy has successfully snapped the OIFC staff out of the Winter doldrums; it's time to get to work!       Shallotte Inlet Update   Last Saturday we had terrible wind ahead of the very strong front that brought all the severe weather to the...
