Licensed and insured since 1986. Inshore, from Tampa Bay and the flats, and nearshore fishing, up to 15 miles into the gulf. License, bait, and tackle are provided. It is recommended to bring food, drinks (alcohol allowed), sunscreen, and whatever else you may think you need. Light-soled shoes preferred. Clients are allowed to bring their own tackle and the captain can offer his own recommendations. Summer fishing off Anna Maria means getting on and off the water early. Most of my trips are half day this time of year and that is just fine with me.
Mackerel fishing on the beaches could not be much better. In fact on some days it can just about be to fast. I try my best to keep track of how many fish go in the box, keeping the bigger fish to fillet. Most days when we get back to the dock the charter can not believe how many they kept.

Spring Fishing 2012
It is "what do you want to fish for" time again. Just about everything that swims is on the prowl now off of Anna Maria. Big Sow sheepshead or in full spawn mode. It is that time of year again. Anglers have to make a choice of what to fish for. Just about everything with fins is on the prowl. Tarpon are at the skyway bridge, Giant black drum are roaming the outside bars, Snook and Reds are in the shallow flats around the mangroves, big trout and spanish mackerl are on the deeper flats around the passes. I had the pleasure to fish with Dick Williams from Tennessee on wednesday this week. The wind was up just enough to keep us from going out to the reefs so we fished on the inside flats around longboat key and anna maria island. It is hard to tell we are still in winter here in Anna Maria. Water temps are more like mid spring. As a result the fish are not in typical patterns for this time of year. To stay ahead of the game you have to be flexible.
Sheepshead have been on the slow side this winter. The past week it has started to pick up with bigger fish as well as better numbers of fish. Next weeks full moon should start a full blown spawn and the fishing will really get good.

Sarasota Bay Fishing Report 01.20.12
Today we tried fishing the edges of some big flats on sarasota bay with little to no luck. I think we caught two small flounder before switching to dock fishing. Structure is still the way to go. The wintertime bite is still very good in our area around Anna Maria. It is just a matter of finding the right dock or patch of rocks
that is holding the fish. Fresh shrimp is the ticket they do not even have to be live to work.

Got a little lazy the last couple of trips instead of using shiners I bought ten dozen shrimp. Anytime the water temp drops into the mid sixties it seems the fish respond better to shrimp.

Went grouper fishing last tuesday just before the closing. We limited out on gags to fifteen pounds by ten in the morning. Almost every drop was a fish. Every day is different one day your tarpon fishing and the next your fishing for trout with a young family and kids. It does not seem to matter the fishing is still good around Anna Maria Island. I fished tarpon for the most part this last week with good results. Both the passes and beaches are producing fish. For what it's worth crabs seem to get the nod early in the day and shiners and pinfish work better when the sun gets up. Most fish are in the eighty to hundred and twenty pound range.

The tarpon bite is going off at the Sunshine Skyway. Boats are reporting as many as fourteen hookups in a morning. The fish are running in the seventy to ninety pound range.
Kingfish are still off our coast when you can get out to them. Along with the kings are big Mangrove Snapper and a few keeper Grouper.

We must have caught thirty kings from eight to fifteen pounds in a morning's fishing. The bite was as fast as you could get a bait into the water. We were fishing in forty foot of water due west of Anna Maria on a artificial reef. Live pilchards on a 2/0 hook with a trace of light wire was doing the trick. In the afternoon we fished the mouth of the Manatee river and caught eight keeper trout up to twenty inches.

We were fishing in forty foot of water due west of Anna Maria on a artificial reef. Live pilchards on a 2/0 hook with a trace of light wire was doing the trick. In the afternoon we fished the mouth of the Manatee river and caught eight keeper trout up to twenty inches.

Fishing this past week on the Fishy Business out of Catcher's Marina has been great. With water temps in the low seventies just about everything is on the feed.
On Monday morning I fished the beaches and nearshore reefs with George Vensel and crew. We caught sheepshead, spanish macks, white grunts and catch and release grouper. That afternoon we fished the flats around some oyster bars and caught five redfish up to twenty-four inches all on live shrimp.

Anglers have a decision to make this time of year. Do you want to fish the resident Tarpon at the Skyway Bridge and then fish for Snook, Reds and Trout on the flats. Or do you want to fish the beaches for Kings, Grouper, Cobia, and Permit and then fish the flats.
