Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 03.12.12

It's been a while since I typed up a fishing report but that doesn't mean nothing has been happening. The camera took a hit so I'm afraid I don't have any pictures to post this time around. They would look similar to all the others over the years, smiling folks holding up a catch--- I spent about 9 days over at Indian Pass doing my best to find a spot out of the wind to let my folks fish. We got 6 days in and while we never crushed 'em my anglers caught fish everyday...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 12.22.11

Christmas is fast approaching. Hopefully everyone reading this made the "nice" list and Santa will bring you at least a new Rod & Reel , if not a Flats Boat with a new 4 stroke on the back.... My early Christmas present was getting to be on the water for 8 days in row since my last report. I went over to Indian Pass and ran Redfish/Trout trips for 6 days , loaded up the truck and came back to Grayton/Seagrove to fish the Gulf for a couple days. I took the same Father...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 10.18.11

Trigger Time   Capt. Larry Pentel October 18, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report       As always, the only reason I get to sit down and type out a fishin' report is the surf's up. We have had some really great Beach weather, perfect temps, clear water and calm days. Yesterday was perfect at the beach but a little too much surf to get a boat off the beach so I got all the usual boat maintenance chores done and with a rainy day today it's paperwork and fis...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 08.10.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   August 4, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report         Target Species !     Well; I'm back to the beach here in Seagrove/Grayton after 2 weeks at Indian Pass. The Tarpon are right where they are supposed to be and still great at driving an angler crazy by jumping and rolling all around the boat. The weather was not as co-operative as I would have liked it for about half the time I was there with rough seas and l...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 07.15.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   July 15, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report     To paraphrase the old cliche'- Red sure has been beautiful this season. A rainy summer morning has me on the hill for at least another hour so I'll post a few pics from the past week. The Snappers continue to be hot with BIG ones biting on a daily basis. Now, as I tell a lot of folks "they don't get big by being dumb". A lot ( most ?) of the big bites end in broken leaders or pulled ho...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 06.30.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   June 28, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   Like the title says, it's been pretty easy to come in with a nice box of fish so far this summer. The Red Snapper are still thick (and BIG), the Groupers are here as well. We do have have the added disadvantage of having to throw back all the Gags but if the anglers can figure how to get 'em up we can usually find a Red one or two to bite as well. The Kings have been rather subdued here lately but everyt...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 06.17.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   June 16, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report       Like the title says, the Red Snappers have been everywhere. Up untill this morning the weather has been very cooperative and I have been running 2 trips a day. While everybody knew that the Snapper population had come back to the point of there being almost too many it is still amazing how many BIG fish there are around. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining by any means !  ...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 06.08.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   June 5, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   Sorry for a late report but my camera died with (lots of)big fish pics on it. My wife was kind enough to get a new one yesterday so while I don't have pics from the first few days of Snapper season I DO have 'em from today !   To say that fishing is easy would be an understatement. There are Red Snappers every where. The only trick is knowing where the bigger ones are !   We had to throw...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 05.17.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   May 11, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   The weather pattern finally changed from sloppy to "chamber of commerce". We have had some calm seas, light winds and crystal clear water the past several days. While it's always a treat to watch the fish chase your bait around 30-40 ft. under the boat we had the extra treat of finding a big log floating on top with hundreds of Mahi swimming around today. Flat calm, gin clear and a big school of...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 05.04.11

Surf's Up !   Capt. Larry Pentel May 1, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   I wish I had a bunch of fish pics to post on this report. The bite has been great when it's been calm enough to get off the beach but there haven't been to many of those days lately. The good news is the Kings have been red hot when we have had the calm weather. The last huge surf also seemed to have either moved in or turned on the gag (Black ) Grouper to about as hot a bite as they get. As...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 04.20.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   April 19, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   Like the title says, that spring fever is an easy catch. The calm warm days between the fronts sure do make for a nice time on the water.   The Kings have shown up and if you are willing to take the time to chase 'em, are more than willing to co-operate. There are still plenty of Spanish up in close but are on the usual bite one day, vanish the next, schedule. The triggers are still hot and , f...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 04.11.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   April 9, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   Lots happening at the Beach in South Walton this week. With all of Georgia on Spring Break there are a bunch of Folks in town. The King Mackerel have also decided to show up and vacation, a very nice addition to the angling options.   The weather has been kind of hit and miss the past 10 days or so, from blowy and chilly to warm and perfect and now, the past 2 days have us socked in with heavy f...

Gulf of Mexico Fishing Report 03.29.11

Capt. Larry Pentel   March 28, 2011 Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report   After a long run of calm seas we have gone into a more normal spring weather pattern of some swell at the beach. The surf yesterday was too much to try to launch. Even though it was a weekend nobody launched from Grayton and there were only a few Destin boats out cobia hunting. The cobia have popped up pretty good a couple days but are still hit and miss. The run should just get better as the water temp...
