Kiawah Island Fishing Report 03.19.12
I have fished 7 out of the last 9 days in Charleston and Kiawah Island, SC. Last Saturday and Sunday had extreme tide and 25-30 mph wind out of the NE making for tough conditions, but Saturday was still good fishing with 15 redfish over 10 pounds, but Sunday the bite slowed down and we worked hard for 2 redfish, 2 black drum and a sheepshead. Fished three days last week and 2 were with clients. The warm weather has really turned the redfish bite on fire. We have been getting good numbers on Zman soft plastics with Pro Cure and on the fly on small black clousers. first trip I fished with clients out of Charleston and we found the redfish in large schools on the flats. North East winds started picking up at the end of the week and making fishing conditions tough but the redfish, trout, and flounder were still biting strong. Early in the week we had good conditions with large tides, still plenty of happy tailing reds in the flooded marsh grass on tides 6.2 and greater. With the cold front last week the mullet run is on, and the bait is bunched up at the inlets. I have only hooked 6 tarpon all summer, but last weekend my clients went 7 for 11 on Tarpon. Best bait was live large mullet and whiting under a bomber float. Most of the fish landed were between 50-70 pounds. Everything is in a feeding mode and the trout and redfish bite is on fire. Fished today with some regular clients and we sight cast and fly fished on the flats today and boated 6 nice redfish with the biggest weighing 17 pounds. Fun day and the trout bite should be heating up with the cooler weather.

Irene moved through on Friday and Saturday with heavy wind and rain, along with extreme tides this week ,the water has looked like chocolate milk.
We had 2 good flood tide fly trips for redfish, caught 2 on fly first trip and next day my group caught 4 on the fly (copper rattler).
